ASWT launches new Women in Turning Initiative with a class

Published on 2/12/2023
The Atlantic Shore Woodturners recently launched a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) Special Interest group entitled Woman in Turning.

Women in Turning (WIT) is the newest committee of the AAW, bringing together women worldwide who share a passion for woodturning. WIT is dedicated to encouraging and assisting women in their pursuit of turning, to sharing ideas and processes to further members’ skills and creativity, and to increasing participation of women in the field of woodturning.

Our local WIT chapter will be holding its first group turning event with a class on Bowl Turning. The class will include basic techniques for wood selection, lathe stock holding, tool selection, and bowl design. The session will feature two of our experienced members Chris Lawrence and Bruce Permutter to lead the class.

The ASWT WIT chapter is looking forward to the expansion of the chapter, through presentations at the numerous public events attended by the club, so if you are a female turner interested in joining with our club, please be sure to attend any monthly meeting  and introduce yourself to our WIT coordinator, Susan Chiarello.

If you are already an ASWT member and would like to participate in the class, please sign up on the Members Calendar.
